No. 11 Wesleyan tops No. 24 men's tennis 6-3

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. -- The No. 24 nationally ranked Bates men's tennis team won two out of three doubles matches before No. 11 Wesleyan came back in singles play to claim a 6-3 NESCAC victory on Wednesday.

No. 13 Tufts will visit Bates on Friday at 4pm in an important NESCAC match as the Bobcats vie to be included in the six-team field of the NESCAC Tennis Championships, which Bates will host May 6-8 at the Wallach Tennis Center.

Bates (6-7, 2-3 NESCAC) paired an 8-2 victory at No. 1 doubles by sophomore Ben Rosen (Port Washington, N.Y.) and junior Chris Ellis (Shrewsbury, Mass.) and an 8-6 win at No. 3 doubles by junior Josh Leiner (Baltimore, Md.) and first-year Josh Quijano (Los Angeles, Calif.) to take a 2-1 lead over the Cardinals.

Wesleyan (9-5, 5-3 NESCAC) turned the tables in singles play, with Steven Chen defeating Rosen at No. 1, Michael Liu defeating Ellis at No. 2, Joachim Samson defeating Bates junior Pat Ordway (Falmouth, Maine) and No. 4 and Cameron Daniels topping Quijano at No. 5, all in straight sets. 

Bates junior Fergus Scott (Wellington, New Zealand) scored a 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 3 singles over Tiago Eusebio for Bates' third point. Junior Brent Feldman (Waccabuc, N.Y.) fell in a super tiebreaker against Jake Roberts at sixth singles.
