MEDFORD, Mass. - The Bates men's tennis team won two matches in singles play, ultimately falling to No. 30 Tufts University 7-2 in NESCAC action Wednesday afternoon at Voute Courts.
The Jumbos (8-6, 4-3 NESCAC) swept doubles competition, with the Bates freshman (9-6, 4-2 NESCAC) duo of Ben Rosen (Port Washington, N.Y.) and Adam Schwartz (Los Angeles, Calif.) playing the closest match in the number three spot, falling 8-4 to Zain Ali and Griffin Brockman.
Rosen picked up the first point for Bates in the number five singles spot, defeating Rob Jacobson in three sets. Rosen was edged in the first set 7-6, but rallied for 6-3 and 10-2 wins in the final two sets. Patrick Orway (Falmouth, Maine) won the second point of the night in the number six singles spot, defeating Jay Glickman in consecutive sets, 7-6, 6-2 for the win.
Bates returns to action on April 24 when the team travels to Amherst for a 3:00 p.m. NESCAC showdown.
