Men's tennis sweeps doubles in 7-2 win over Connecticut College

NEW LONDON, Conn. - The Bates men's tennis team swept doubles play en route to a 7-2 win over Connecticut College Saturday afternoon in NESCAC action. The Bobcats came into the match ranked No. 20 in the most recently national rankings released on April 9, climbing up six spots from their previous ranking.

Henry Lee (Sag Harbor, N.Y.) and Patrick Ordway (Falmouth, Maine) dominated in number two doubles for Bates (9-4, 4-0 NESCAC), picking up the 8-1 win over Connecticut College's (7-7, 0-4 NESCAC) Jonathan Kraiger and Ben Sachs. First-years Ben Rosen (Port Washington, N.Y.) and Adam Schwartz (Los Angeles, Calif.) combined for the win in number three doubles, with an 8-3 victory over Daniel Maffa and Jonathan Deeter. The duo of Pierre Planche (Natick, Mass.) and Christopher Ellis (Shrewsbury, Mass.) battled to an 8-6 win in number one doubles.

In singles competition, Planche and Ellis picked up consecutive set wins in the number one and two spots, respectively. Jonathan Kraiger and Jonathan Deeter picked up the lone points for Connecticut College on the day, as Kraiger won in consecutive sets in the number three position, and Deeter won in the number for spot.

Ben Rosen won in consecutive sets in number five singles, and Patrick Ordway notched the victory in the number six position.

Bates returns to action on April 19, when the team hosts Middlebury in NESCAC action, with the match beginning at 2:00 p.m.
