HAVERHILL, Mass. - The No. 14 nationally ranked Bates men's tennis team swept the singles competition in an 8-1 victory over Babson College Friday night at Cedardale Health & Fitness Center. The Bobcats jumped out to the quick 2-0 lead in doubles when senior Pierre Planche (Natick, Mass.) and sophomore Christopher Ellis (Shrewsbury, Mass.) defeated Connor DeFiore and Victor Vu, 8-1 in the number one spot, followed by an 8-2 win by senior Henry Lee (Sag Harbor, N.Y.) and sophomore Patrick Ordway (Falmouth, Maine).
The battle for number three doubles was tight, with Babson's Felix Wee and Ben Roque edging out sophomore Brent Feldman (Waccabuc, N.Y.) and first-year Josh Leiner (Baltimore, Md.) 9-7 for the Beavers' lone point of the evening.
In singles competition, Planche took the number one victory in consecutive sets over Roberto Perez. Ellis and Brent Feldman won the second and third spots, respectively, both winning in three sets. First-year Ben Rosen (Port Washington, N.Y.), Lee, and Ordway won the last three singles matches in consecutive sets.
The Bobcats next play Saturday, March 14 at MIT at 1:00 p.m.
