Men's tennis drops 8-1 decision to No. 7 Johns Hopkins

BALTIMORE, Md. - The No. 16 Bates men's tennis team fell in the final match in Maryland, dropping an 8-1 decision to No. 7 Johns Hopkins University 8-1 on Saturday morning at Johns Hopkins University.

Bates (5-4) picked up the lone win over Johns Hopkins (3-4) in number one doubles play. The duo of Christopher Ellis (Shrewsbury, Mass.) and Pierre Planche (Natick, Mass.) battled to a 9-8 victory over Mike Buxbaum and Emerson Walsh to give the Bobcats the score.

In singles competition, Christopher Ellis took Jeremy Dubin to three sets, winning the first set 6-4 before falling in the second two sets 6-1, 6-4. Ben Rosen (Port Washington, N.Y.) also battled to three sets, bouncing back from a 7-6 loss to Tanner Brown to take the second set 6-3, before falling in the third set.

Bates returns to action on March 28 when the Bobcats host Brandeis at 3:00 p.m.
