CAMBRDIGE, Mass. -- The No. 16 nationally ranked Bates men's tennis team won two out of three doubles matches, then prevailed in four out of six singles matches for a 6-3 win at MIT on Saturday afternoon in J.B. Carr Indoor Tennis Center.

The Bobcats' (4-1) All-American doubles duo of senior Pierre Planche (Natick, Mass.) and sophomore Chris Ellis (Shrewsbury, Mass.) downed the host Engineers' Eugene Oh and Kevin Wang at No. 1 doubles, 8-2, and sophomore Patrick Ordway (Falmouth, Maine) and senior Henry Lee (Sag Harbor, N.Y.) posted an 8-4 decision over Avi Walden and Kenny Gea. The Engineers kept the match close at No. 3 doubles, with Dennis Garcia and Bryan Lilley defeating Bates freshmen Ben Rosen (Port Washington, N.Y.) and Josh Leiner (Baltimore, Md.) 8-5.

Ellis, sophomore Brent Feldman (Waccabuc, N.Y.) and Rosen all won in straight sets at second, third and fourth singles, respectively, clinching the victory for the Bobcats. Ordway gave Bates its sixth point, winning a marathon sixth singles match over Lilley in a third-set tiebreaker.

Bates will play its first NESCAC match on Tuesday at 5pm, at home against Colby.
