LEWISTON, Maine – No. 25 Bates College men's tennis swept Hamilton College, 9-0, in its first match against NESCAC competition on the season on Sunday evening at Merrill Indoor Gymnasium.
The Bobcats (2-3, 1-0 NESCAC) won five of six singles matches in straight sets after taking a 3-0 lead over the Continentals (3-2, 0-2 NESCAC) in doubles play.
Senior Timmy Berg (Bradenton, Fla.) and junior Pierre Planche (Natick, Mass.) teamed for an 8-2 win at first doubles while seniors Peter Yanofsky (Belmont, Mass.) and Ben Bogard (Lido Beach, N.Y.) won 8-3 at No. 2, and senior Eric Ruta (Ridgewood, N.J.) and first-year Christopher Ellis (Shrewsbury, Mass.) snagged an 8-4 win at the No. 3 spot.
Berg, Planche, and Ellis emerged victorious at first, second, and third singles respectively. First-year Brent Feldman (Waccabuc, N.Y.) captured a 6-2, 6-2 win on court No. 4, junior Henry Lee (Sag Harbor, N.Y.) won 6-4, 6-1 at No. 5, and first-year Patrick Ordway (Falmouth, Maine) recorded a 6-3, 6-1 victory at the No. 6 position.
Next, Bates hosts MIT on Friday at 4 p.m.
