SIDNEY, Maine -- The Bates men's rowing team took first place in both the men's varsity eight (MV8) and the first-year/novice eights (MF/N8) race at the CBB Chase, hosted by Colby at Messalonskee Lake on the morning of Saturday, Oct. 26.
Bates' MV8 finished its course in 13:02, a whopping 24 seconds ahead of runner-up Bowdoin. Bates' second varsity eight finished fourth among the five boats in 13:51, trailing both Bowdoin and Colby's first eights but decisively defeating Colby's M2V8 (15:24).
The novice eights race belonged to the Bobcats by a 59-second margin ahead of runner-up Colby.
Up next for Bates' rowing teams will be their annual training trip to Austin, Texas, taking place Feb. 15-22, 2014.
