GORHAM, Maine -- The Bates College men's tennis team swept all nine matches Thursday afternoon en route to their fourth straight win, a 9-0 decision over the University of Southern Maine Huskies at the USM field house indoor courts.
Bates, ranked seventh in this week's Northeast Region rankings, swept the three doubles matches prior to taking all six singles contests. The Bobcats improve to 7-2 on the season. The match was the spring season opener for the Huskies.
The best match of the day was at No. 1 singles, where Bates sophomore Amrit Rupasinghe (Colombo, Sri Lanka) and USM sophomore Josh Warren (Hermon, Maine) split sets, each winning 6-3, before Rupasinghe won a super tiebreaker, 10-7, to take the match. Rupasinghe also combined with junior Ben Stein (Pelham, N.Y.) for an 8-4 win at first doubles over Warren and junior Derek Stevenson (Windham, Maine).
Bates is off until April 3 when it travels to in-state rival Bowdoin College.
