BABSON PARK, Mass. -- The Bates College men's tennis team cruised to a 9-0 victory at non-league opponent Babson College on Friday, raising the Bobcats' head-to-head record to 2-1 this year.
Junior Ben Stein (Pelham, N.Y.) and sophomore Amrit Rupasinghe (Colombo, Sri Lanka) set the tone with an 8-2 victory at first doubles over the Beavers' Walt Sea and Ben Edick. Stein defeated Alex Kamergorodsky 6-3, 6-2 at first singles while Rupasinghe took care of Edick at NO. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-3.
Sophomore Maxwell Berger (Concord, N.H.) teamed up with classmate Ryan Mannelly (New Canaan, Conn.) to win 8-6 at second doubles, and Berger followed with a 6-1, 6-1 win at fourth singles. Sophomore Michael Reiss (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) also scored a pair of wins, at third doubles with senior Brett Hine (Peru, Maine) and at third singles.
Bates will next play at the Middlebury Invitational March 8.
