AMHERST, Mass. -- The Bates College men's tennis team saw a couple of tough points go the other team's way as the Bobcats dropped a 7-2 decision to NESCAC rival and host Amherst College on Saturday.
The Lord Jeffs (8-1) picked up two wins in the doubles matches, including a 9-8 (8-6 tiebreaker) marathon in the top spot. Sophomore Zach Lerner teamed with Jeff Schwartz to defeat Bates' top pairing and set the tone for the match.
Bates (3-2) received points from the No. 2 doubles team of first-years Amrit Rupasinghe (Colombo, Sri Lanka) and Ryan Mannelly (New Canaan, Conn.), who won by an 8-2 decision, and sophomore Ben Stein (Pelham, N.Y.) at No. 2 singles.
Bates plays at Tufts on Sunday at 2 p.m.
