LEWISTON, Maine -- Connecticut College scored three goals in the opening 18 minutes and went on to cruise to a 5-0 victory over host Bates College in a NESCAC field hockey game on Saturday.
Bates (3-1, 1-1 NESCAC) suffered its first loss of the season. The Camels (2-3, 1-2) notched their first conference win, and their second straight overall.
Connecticut College scored four of its five goals off of penalty corners, and outshot Bates by a 16-12 margin.
First-year goalie Jamie Sheehan (South Burlington, Vt.) notched her second shutout of the season, on the strenth of six saves. Bates senior Sarah Sprague (Cleveland, Ohio) had seven saves.
Sophomore Jenny Roe (Bethesda, Md.) scored just two minutes into the first half and was one of five Camels to record goals. Junior Jill Mauer (Millbrook, N.Y.) recorded a goal and two assists, while senior Liz Lingo (Rehoboth Beach, Del.) added a goal and an assist. Senior Sage Shanley (Westerly, R.I.) scored once, while junior Alex Albright (Wilmington, Del.) and sophomore Gretchen Mayer (Havertown, Pa.) each had assists.
Bates will try to rebound at Tufts University on Sept. 30. The Camels next play at Wellesley on Sept. 27.
