Field hockey wins in OT vs. UMF

LEWISTON, Maine – First-year Rachel Greenwood (Williamstown, Mass./St. Mark’s) scored the game-winning goal in an overtime field hockey game vs. University of Maine at Farmington.



The Bobcats earned their second consecutive win and improve to 2-3 on the season, while the Beavers fell to 5-2.



Bates opened up the scoring only 7:33 into the game when first-year Emily Sampson (Plymouth, N.H.Holderness School) knocked in a goal unassisted. UMF evened the score two minutes later when Kristy Veazie scored with Kristi Cochan assisting. Megan Petry (Crestwood, K.Y./Louisville College) then tallied a goal unassisted to give Bates a 2-1 lead.



UMF opened up the second half when Veazie scored her second goal of the game only 2:22 into the half to tie it. Greenwood scored unassisted with 13:20 remaining in regulation to recapture the lead.



UMF’s Mary Berry answered with 2:55 remaining to put the game into overtime.



Only 1:30 into overtime, Greenwood knocked in the game winner off of a penalty corner from Brooke Anable (Holderness, N.H./Plymouth).



Bates took a total of 19 shots to UMF’s 16. Sarah Judice (Granby, Conn./Granby) recorded seven saves, while Kaeliegh Barker stopped nine.



Bates will host Tufts on Saturday at 12 p.m.
