Field hockey earns first win of the season

LEWISTON, Maine – Sophomore Erin Chandler (Thornton, P.A./Westtown School) scored the game-tying goal and the game-winning goal for the Bates field hockey team to earn their first win of the season. The Bobcats defeated Trinity College 2-1 this afternoon in a conference game. Bates improves to 1-3 on the season and 1-2 in the conference, while Trinity falls to 3-3 overall and 1-3 in the NESCAC.



Kathleen Conlon (Sagamore Beach, Mass./Phillips Acad.) knocked in the first goal of the game at 27:42 in the first half to give the Bantams an early 1-0 lead.

Chandler scored the Bobcats first goal of the game with 25:43 remaining in the game to tie it 1-1. Megan Petry (Crestwood, K.Y./Louisville College) earned the assist. With only :43.4 remaining in regulation Chandler scored the game winner with Sarah Peters (Acton, Mass./Acton-Boxborough) assisting.



Bates had a total of 14 shots on the day, including 12 in the second half. Trinity took seven shots in the game. Goalkeeper Sarah Judice (Granby, Conn./Granby) made four saves, while Courtney Bergh (Pennington, N.J./Princeton Day) stopped nine in the game including eight in the second half.



The Bobcats will host the University of Maine at Farmington on Wednesday at 5 p.m.
