NEW LONDON, Conn. -- Junior forward Sage Shanley (Westerly, R.I.) tallied a hat-trick Saturday afternoon, leading Connecticut College (2-3, 1-2) to a 6-1 victory over Bates College (0-3, 0-2) on the Artificial Turf at Silfen Field.
Junior forward Katie Williams (Selinsgrove, Pa.) chipped in with two goals and one assist as the hosts recorded their first victory on their new playing surface.
The Camels built a 3-0 advantage on Shanley’s second goal of the afternoon just 15:35 into the contest. Emily Sampson (Plymouth, N.H.) put the Bobcats on the board at 17:07, cutting the lead to two goals. But senior co-captain Caitlin Connolly (Manchester, Mass.) notched her second score of the season with 6:53 left in the half, providing the hosts with a 4-1 lead at the break.
The Camels added a couple of insurance goals in the second half, including Shanley’s third score of the afternoon with 24:06 remaining, and were easily able to hold on for the 6-1 victory.
Emily Sampson (Plymouth, N.H./Holderness School) knocked in her first collegiate goal for the Bobcats at 15:35 unassisted.
Senior goalie Sarah Judice (Granby, Conn.) made 13 saves for Bates. Ashley Kenerson (Wenham, Mass.) had eight stops for the Camels.
The Bobcats will face Trinity tomorrow at home at 12 p.m.
