HARTFORD, Conn. -- Sophomore forward Erin Chandler took care of all the scoring, senior Sarah Judice took care of the goal, and the Bates College field hockey team took care of a winning host team on Saturday. Playing at Trinity College because of Wesleyan's flooded home fields, the Bobcats upset the Cardinals 2-1 in overtime.
Chandler (Thornton, Pa.) broke a scoreless tie with 16:47 left to play in regulation with an unassisted score, her fourth of the season. Wesleyan's Molly Adams tied the game with only 2:31 left to play, sending the game into overtime.
Chandler again came through nearly six minutes into the extra period with the winning goal, sending Bates (4-6, 2-5 NESCAC) to arguably its biggest win of the season.
Judice (Granby, Conn.) played immensely for Bates, which was outshot by a 27-11 margin. Judice had 17 saves.
Wesleyan (7-3, 3-3), which also outshot Bates 5-1 in the overtime, held a 13-6 edge in penalty corners for the game.
Bates hosts Middlebury on Saturday, Oct. 22.
