Sophomore Henry Ehrlich shared medalist honors as one of two players to finish under par, and the Bates men's golf team tied Trinity for third place out of 10 teams Sunday at the NESCAC Championship, the best finish in program history.
Ehrlich (Portland, Ore.) was brilliant on Sunday, shooting a two-under par 70 at Brunswick Golf Club to finish one under for the tournament with a two-day score of 143. He tied Tufts University's Jack Meehan for first place out of 50 competitors. Ehrlich is the first Bobcat in program history to earn medalist honors at the two-day NESCAC Championship. Preston Haugh '21 earned medalist honors at a COVID-modified one-day event in 2021.
Ehrlich entered Sunday one over par and recorded three bogeys in the first five holes. Then he went off, tallying birdies on holes six and nine to get to one over for the day at the turn. Ehrlich played a bogey-free back nine, with three birdies along the way to get to two under, the second-lowest round in the field. Meehan shot a three-under-par 69 on Sunday to go from two over par to one under for the tournament, tying Ehrlich with a birdie on 18.
