Bates men's track and field junior Truman Williams broke a 23-year-old school record in the 400 meters on Saturday, highlighting an outstanding day for the Bobcats at Boston University's Valentine Invitational.

Williams (Montclair, N.J.) raced to the finish in 49.05 seconds, finishing second in his section at BU and breaking the previous school record of 49.09 seconds, held by Erik Zwick '01 since 2001. Williams went from having never broken 50 seconds in the 400 to being the new school record-holder in the event. 

He also helped the 4x400 relay achieve a time of 3:21.16, the eight-fastest time in Bates history.
