Bates men's cross country senior captain
Ned Farrington represented the Bobcats at the NCAA Division III Championships and finished 31st out of 294 runners on Saturday, becoming the 17th All-American in program history. The top 40 performers at the meet earned All-America honors.
Farrington (Cohasset, Mass.) raced to the finish of the 8-kilometer course at Big Spring High School in 25:02.3.
"From start to finish Ned executed the plan of being up in All-America contention," head coach
Danny Feldman said. "His guts, supreme confidence, and unrelenting push up the hills was remarkable. The course was incredibly difficult but his focus never wavered and he was rewarded with All-America status. Such a great way to end his senior year!"
The last Bates men's cross country runner to become an All-American was
James Jones '20 in 2018.
Farrington's All-America performance comes on the heels of him earning All-Region honors for a fourth-place showing at the NCAA East Regional Championship and All-NESCAC honors for a 13th place finish at the NESCAC Championships.
This marks the first All-America honor of Farrington's career. He now turns his attention to the indoor track and field season, where last year Farrington helped Bates earn All-Region honors in the Distance Medley Relay.
