Senior captain Eliza Statile (Ipswich, Mass.) recorded a career-high 20 saves to help the Bates women's lacrosse team defeat No. 2 nationally ranked Middlebury in overtime on the road by a final score of 11-10 Saturday.

Down by three with less than three minutes left, Bates got a free position opportunity and senior Katie Allard scored to trim the deficit to two goals. The Panthers won the ensuing draw control only to see Statile make a huge save in goal for Bates. Junior Caroline Kerrigan picked up the ensuing ground ball and Bates successfully cleared it, setting up sophomore Summer Dias for a goal, cutting the Panther lead to 10-9 with 1:52 left in regulation.

With 55 seconds remaining, Statile made another massive save for the Bobcats and picked up the ground ball herself. The Bobcats cleared it and called timeout with just 29 ticks on the clock. Out of the timeout, junior Avery MacMullen picked the perfect time to score her first goal of the season, tallying the equalizer with just 10 seconds to go in regulation. Then Dias won the game in overtime.

Statile also recorded a game-high nine ground balls. 

The Bobcats are back in action on Wednesday when they visit Babson for a game that gets underway at 5pm.
