Men's rowing senior captain Steven Sparks (Simsbury, Conn.), the six-seat who normally rows port, was asked to row starboard for the first time on Saturday, rowing in the five seat for the Bates first varsity eight. Despite missing 19 rowers due to illness the Bates men still advanced the first varsity eight and second varsity eight boats to their respective Grand Finals at the New England Rowing Championship, with Bates taking fifth in both events.
