Junior Liam Byrne set three personal records and won four events to pace the Bates men's track and field team to a dominating victory in the Bates Quad Meet Saturday in the first outdoor meet of the season for the Bobcats.
Bates scored 98 points as a team to win the meet, bettering second-place Bowdoin by nearly 40 points.
Byrne (Ridgefield, Conn.), a three-time All-NESCAC honoree in the throws, picked up where he left off in 2021, when he was the top javelin thrower in the conference. He tossed the javelin a career-best 172-9 on Saturday, bettering his previous record of 165-8. Byrne led a 1-2 finish in the hammer with a career-best throw of 172-6.
Byrne won the discus with a career-best throw of 155-7 and he led a 1-2-3 Bates finish in the shot put at 47-9.
