Bates senior Matt Gaither piled up nine tackles for the Bobcats, including eight solo, nearly doubling his previous career high of five tackles, as Bates' defense kept the opponent out of the end zone for a second straight week in last Saturday's 14-6 win at Bowdoin.

A three-year starter at defensive end, Gaither recorded three tackles for a loss and a quarterback sack in the win, which sealed Bates' first outright CBB championship since 2002. Gaither came up with a key stop on a 4th and 1 from his team’s 34-yard line in the fourth quarter.

Gaither (Winchester, Mass.) has a career-high 27 tackles (22 solo) on the season, with 1.5 sacks. He leads Bates in fumble recoveries (2) and quarterback hurries (5).

The Bobcats (4-3) host Hamilton this Saturday, Nov. 10 at 12pm, with hopes of finishing with a winning record for the first time since 1981.
