Bates sophomore swimmer Andrew Briggs (York, Maine) capped a great weekend with two exciting individual wins in the Bobcats' dual meet at Middlebury on Sunday.

In the Bobcats' dual meet at NESCAC rival Middlebury, Briggs was one of three Bates men to win a pair of events, along with fellow sophomore swimmer Matthew Gagne (Winnetka, Ill.) and senior diver Travis Jones (Ithaca, N.Y.). Briggs won the 100 breaststroke in 1:01.28, .03 ahead of Middlebury’s Stephan Koenigsberger, for Bates’ first event win of the afternoon. Briggs then defeated Koenigsberger again in the 200 breast, 2:15.24 to 2:15.71.

The previous day, in Bates' head-to-head team win at Norwich University, Briggs won both the 1,000 free (10:49.64) and the 500 free (5:06.98).

Briggs and the Bobcats will host Bowdoin on Friday, Jan. 18 at 6pm in their final home meet of the season.
