Senior captain Jacqui Holmes led the No. 28 nationally ranked Bates women's tennis team to a 3-1 record last week, winning all four of her singles matches and three out of four of her doubles matches as Bates sandwiched an 8-1 loss to No. 1 Amherst with an 8-1 victory over Colby and a 9-0 win over Connecticut College.
Holmes (Harvard, Mass.) won decisively in straight sets at No. 2 singles in Monday's win over Colby, 6-3, 6-1 over Sarah Wiener. That came after she teamed up with senior Jenna Burke (Burlington, Mass.) on an 8-5 win at No. 3 doubles.
The Bobcats traveled to Amherst on Wednesday, where Holmes salvaged Bates' lone point in a three-set win over Safi Aly at second singles, 4-6, 6-4, 11-9.
Bates returned home on Saturday to defeat Connecticut College 9-0 for the second straight year, again teaming with Burke to win at third doubles before routing Jen Herbert 6-2, 6-1 at second singles.
Hamilton visited on Sunday, and Holmes won every game in a 6-0, 6-0 destruction of Carrie Uhlein at second singles, following her and Burke's 8-5 win over Uhlein and Melissa Mann.
Bates (6-8, 2-3 NESCAC) wraps up the regular season with three home matches this week: Bowdoin at home on Thursday at 4pm, Tufts on Saturday at 4pm, and Wesleyan on Sunday at 2pm.
