Bates senior Mary Lewis went 2-for-3 and stole two bases in the Bobcat softball team's series opener against Trinity on Friday. That performance was Lewis's fifth straight multi-hit game, extended her hitting streak to eight games, and gave her multiple hits for the 10th time in 13 contests.
Lewis (Gardiner, Maine) didn't let her remarkable career end before reaching some key milestones. Her two steals in the Trinity game gave her 24 for the season, five more than the former team record set by Krissie Whiting '03 in 2002. They also gave her 54 in her career, exceeding by nine the former team standard set last season by Karen Ullmann '12.
Lewis totaled 39 hits this season, tied for the fourth most in team history, and remarkably, all 39 were singles -- another program record. Lewis's 121 career hits included 119 singles, 27 more than any other player in team history.
The senior captain finished with a career-best .464 batting average, third highest in the conference, and the program's best since 2000, when Teresa Janisch hit .493 and Shannon Browher hit .472.
