Senior captain Rakey Drammeh clinched a 5-4 win over Williams on Saturday with a 3-1 victory at the No. 7 spot in the final match of the day for Bates to gain Bobcat of the Week accolades for the week of Jan. 6-12.
With the match tied at 4-4, the New York, N.Y., native lost the first set to Alyssa Ritchie, 11-9, but won the next three games in succession – 11-2, 11-9, 11-6. Drammeh helped the Bobcats complete a sweep of the 7-9 positions against the Ephs.
The matchup between the 10th-ranked Bobcats and the 15th-ranked Ephs marked the first time that both the men's and women's teams for Bates ranked higher than Williams in the CSA national rankings. The Bates men came in at No. 12 while the Williams men ranked No. 18.
Against Connecticut College in the team’s first match of the day at the Bates Squash Center, the Thurgood Marshall Academy product defeated Kaleigh Tierney, 11-2, 11-0, 11-0, also at the No. 7 spot in Bates’ 9-0 win.
Drammeh and the Bobcats return to play with home matches during the week against Hamilton (Wednesday, 7 p.m.) and Brown (Friday, 5 p.m.).
