Junior Andy Cannon won at the No. 4 position against Williams, clinching an eventual 6-3 victory, as the Bobcats beat the Ephs for the first time since Jan. 12, 2008, to earn Bobcat of the Week honors for the week of Jan. 6-12.
On Saturday, with Bates leading Williams 4-3 in the match, the Greenwich, Conn., native defeated Taylor Foehl in five sets, 11-2, 5-11, 12-10, 8-11, 11-6, to gain the deciding point for the Bobcats at the Bates Squash Center.
The matchup between the 12th-ranked Bobcats and the 18th-ranked Ephs marked the first time that both the men's and women's teams for Bates ranked higher than Williams in the CSA national rankings. The Bates women ranked No. 10 while the Williams women came in at No. 15.
Earlier in the day, the Taft School graduate defeated Hunter Bolling of Connecticut College, 11-2, 11-3, 11-8, also at the No. 4 position in the team’s 8-1 win.
Cannon and the Bobcats return to play with home matches during the week against Hamilton (Wednesday, 7 p.m.) and Brown (Friday, 5 p.m.).
