Junior Mark McCauley had a hand in breaking two program records over the weekend at Boston University as he broke the 1,000-meter record and helped the Bobcats set a new record in the distance medley relay to gain Bobcat of the Week accolades for the week of Feb. 3-9.
A native of Cumberland, Maine, McCauley ran a 2:26.78 in the 1,000 meters on Saturday eclipsing the mark of fellow Cumberland product James LePage ’13 who ran a 2:27.90 in 2012.
The previous day at the Valentine Invitational, McCauley aided the Bobcats in finishing first at the all-divisions meet, notching the top time in Division III this year, and setting a new team record in the DMR with a time of 9:53.45.
McCauley ran the third leg with a 1:51 in the 800 after junior John Stansel (Newburyport, Mass.) ran the initial 1,200-meter leg in 3:03 and senior Ben Levy (Belmont, Mass.) posted a 49.2 in the 400 meters. Senior Noah Graboys (Glencoe, Ill.) anchored the relay with a 4:09 in the 1,600 meters. The foursome knocked off the former team record of 9:55.10 set in 2012.
McCauley and the Bobcats return to action at the Tufts Invitational on Saturday.
