Junior Elena Mandzhukova won four of the six matches she participated in during Bates’ season-opening trip to California where she helped lead the team to a 2-1 record to capture Bobcat of the Week laurels for the week of Feb. 17-23.

In the team’s opener against Cal Lutheran on Tuesday, the Lisbon, Portugal, product teamed with first-year Elizabeth Erbafina to beat Sarah Baker and Rebecca Gold, 9-8 (7-2), at first doubles. Mandzhukova then went on to defeat Dana Raugust, 6-0, 6-0, at first singles in the team’s 7-2 victory.

After a loss to Chapman University on Wednesday, Mandzhukova and the Bobcats responded with a 5-4 victory over Whittier on Saturday. Mandzhukova partnered with Erbafina again to top Adrienne Hamada and Gabi Etchegaray on doubles court No. 1, 9-7. The Kents Hill School graduate proceeded to win at No. 1 singles over Hamada, 6-4, 6-2.

Mandzhukova and the Bobcats return to play with a match against Smith College on Friday at 7 p.m. at Mount Holyoke College.
