Sophomore goalie Hannah Jeffrey made 12 saves as Bates upset No. 2 Trinity in a 6-3 win as part of a 2-0 week, earning NESCAC Player of the Week and Bobcat of the Week accolades for the week of March 10-16.
Jeffrey and the Bobcats defeated the Bantams for the first time since April 10, 2005 and dealt Trinity its first-regular season loss since April 12, 2012, a span of 18 games. Bates improved to 5-1 overall, its best start to a season since going 6-1 in 2003.
The Bobcats’ defensive unit of Jeffrey and defenders Cat Dioli, Aly Dowey, Melanie Watson, and SooHee Yoon held Trinity to one goal in the first half and two in the second as the team kept the Bantams off the board for 10 or more minutes on each of four occasions.
Jeffrey, a Greenwich, Conn., native also stopped 11 shots in Bates’ 16-10 win over Babson on Tuesday and entered the week third in the NESCAC in saves per game (7.33) and fourth in the league in goals-against average (7.47) and save percentage (.537).
The program moved from receiving votes in last week’s IWLCA Coaches Poll to No. 13 in this week’s edition.
