Senior Blair Shrewsbury scored a career-high five goals on five shots to help push women’s lacrosse past Hamilton, 12-6, on Saturday gaining Bobcat of the Week accolades for the week of March 24-30.

A native of Boxford, Mass., Shrewsbury registered two goals in the first half to aid the Bobcats in taking a 5-4 lead at halftime. The 5-8 attack then totaled three of the game’s last four goals to push Bates’ edge from 8-6 to 12-6 over the final 14 minutes. The Bobcats outscored the Continentals 7-2 in the second half.

“We came off of a couple losses last week, and that kind of fueled our fire,” Shrewsbury said after the game. “In the past week we’ve really taken to a specific training – pinpointing what people need to work on. Today those things were faking when we shoot, which paid off really well, 1-v-1s on defense, which our defense proved to do every time and their drive was shut down most times, and then our goalie absolutely nailed it.”

Shrewsbury’s efforts helped Bates move up from No. 16 to No. 14 in this week’s IWLCA (Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association) Poll.

Thus far in 2014 Shrewsbury leads the team with 23 goals and ranks second on the squad with 29 points. She ranks eighth in the NESCAC with 2.30 goals per game.

Next, Shrewsbury and the Bobcats play at No. 19 Bowdoin on Wednesday at 7 p.m. before hosting No. 5 Middlebury on Saturday at noon.
