Bates College women’s rowing’s second varsity eight won all three of its races over two events this past weekend to take home Bobcat of the Week accolades for the week of April 7-13.
In its first action since March 29 at the Tufts Races on the Malden River on Saturday, the second varsity eight won its first heat behind a time of 6:48.6 over Wesleyan’s 7:05.5 before capturing a win in the grand final with a time of 7:03.5, ahead of Wellesley's 7:37.7.
On Sunday at Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass., the Bobcats edged Trinity 6:55.70 to 6:57.52 in an event which featured five entries. WPI head coach Jason Steele described the conditions as “excellent water for all racing.”
Senior coxswain Molly Huffaker (Ithaca, N.Y.), junior stroke Rebecca O’Neill (Westminster, Vt.), senior 7-seat Rachel Ellis (Snohomish, Wash.), senior 6-seat Taylor Kniffin (Stamford, Conn.), first-year 5-seat Savannah Stockly (Cumberland, Maine), sophomore 4-seat Michelle Kelley (Shaftsbury, Vt.), sophomore 3-seat Emma Taylor (Scituate, Mass.), junior 2-seat Eliza Barkan (Seattle, Wash.), and sophomore bow Emilie Muller (Concord, N.H.) made up the crew.
The Bobcats next compete on Saturday at MIT.
