Senior Brad Reynolds pitched a complete-game shutout for the baseball team as Bates beat Colby 5-0 in the first game of a three-game series on Friday to earn Bobcat of the Week honors for the week of April 21-27.

Reynolds (Lafayette, Colo.) struck out a career-high 12 batters while allowing just four hits and a walk over nine innings. The left hander’s longest outing prior to the performance came in a 6.2-inning effort against Trinity on April 20, 2013.

The Bobcats’ Friday win combined with a victory over the Mules in game two of a doubleheader on Sunday improved the team’s NESCAC mark to 6-4 and qualified the club for the NESCAC Championship for the first time in the 14-year history of the tournament.

A product of Fairview High School, Reynolds faced 32 batters against Colby, retiring the side in order in each of four innings and meeting four batters in each of the five other frames. On the season, he has recorded a team-high 53 batters over 47.0 innings with an ERA of 2.11 and a record of 5-1.

After two non-conference league games this week, Bates hosts Tufts for a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. with the NESCAC East Division’s top seed up for grabs.
