Bates senior Andrew Briggs was one of the key parts of the Bates men's swimming and diving team's defeating both of its main rivals, Colby and Bowdoin, on back-to-back days this weekend to capture the squad's first CBB (Colby-Bates-Bowdoin) title in over a decade.
In Sunday's 153-141 win against Bowdoin at Bates' Tarbell Pool, Briggs (York, Maine) established a new facility record in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 58.83 seconds -- after he posted a 58.3 split in the 400 medley relay to help set another pool record of 1:27.44. Briggs also had some breakthrough freestyle results on the weekend, going 22.1 and 48.9 seconds in the 50 and 100 freestyles, respectively.
In the dual meet at Colby on Saturday, Briggs was part of the winning relay team in both the 200 medley and 400 freestyle relays, in a 183-109 Bates men's victory.
