From season highs in steals (4) and rebounds (7), to his breakaway dunk, to sticking a stepback jumper in isolation to end the second half, Bates junior Mike Boornazian came to play in the Bobcats' game against Tufts on Saturday. The result was the first-place Jumbos' first NESCAC loss of the season, and Bates' seventh win in as many home games this season.
Boornazian (Portland, Conn.) scored a game-high 20 points, making 3-of-6 shots from three-point territory and shooting 5-for-6 at the free-throw line, as Bates won 64-51.
Boornazian and the Bobcats played excellent team defense, holding the Jumbos to 17 points in the second half and a season-low point total for the game. Bates improved to 12-4 overall and 2-2 in NESCAC play, and exceeded last season's overall and NESCAC win totals in the process.
