Sophomore Patrick Ordway (Falmouth, Maine) battled his way to a critical win in number six singles on Sunday afternoon at Merrill Gym, helping the No. 26 Bates men’s tennis team upset No. 17 Wesleyan University, 5-4 in NESCAC action.

The Bobcats (7-4, 2-0 NESCAC) were down, 2-1 coming out of doubles competition, and with the score knotted at four near the end of singles play, Ordway battled to a 7-5 first-set victory over Wesleyan’s Cameron Daniels. He dropped a tough second set, 6-7, but dominated in the third and final set, winning 6-1 and securing the conference victory for Bates.

Ordway was also part of the lone doubles point against Wesleyan, teaming up with senior Henry Lee for an 8-4 win over Jake Roberts and Greg Lyon.
