Senior captain Nick Margitza won the shot put and placed third in the weight throw, leading the Bates men's track and field team to fifth place out of 26 scoring teams Saturday at the New England Division III Men's Indoor Championships, hosted by MIT.

Margitza (Waterville, Maine) won the shot put with a top effort of 54-7.5, a new personal record that took him within 0.75 inches of Ethan Waldman '11 for the No. 3 spot on Bates' all-time performance list in the indoor shot. Incredibly, Margitza had the top five attempts of any athlete in the field of 20.
