Junior Adedire Fakorede's second-place and season-best performance in the 35-pound weight throw on Friday fueled the Bates men's track and field team to 13th place out of 32 scoring teams at the two-day, all-divisions Open New Englands.

Fakorede's (Newark, N.J.) top effort of 60-3.75, trailed only Northeastern University's Eric Mellusi (61-10.5) and cleared third-place Brandon Amo of the University of Rhode Island by over eight inches. Fakorede entered the weekend as the third-ranked weight thrower in Division III at his previous best mark of 60-1.

The eight points from Fakorede's performance led Bates to 13th place out of the 32 teams that scored at the meet, with 15.20 -- fifth among Division III teams.
