Bates women's track and field opened the outdoor season Saturday with a strong second-place finish to the University of Maine, in a tri-meet that included the University of New Hampshire.

Senior captain Elyse Rubchinuk (Newport, N.H.) won the javelin throw with a personal-best mark of 125-10. Rubchinuk also placed third in the high jump (4-9). Rubchinuk ranks second on Bates' all-time performance list in the javelin.

Bates will host a three-team meet next Saturday, April 8, starting at noon, with Colby and MIT competing.
