Sophomore Henry Raff (Hailey, Idaho) had a breakout race Saturday by finishing 37th overall at the NCAA Division III New England Regional Championships at Bowdoin. He raced to the finish in a career-best 25:52.1.

The No. 28 nationally ranked Bates men's cross country team placed its top five runners all inside the top 50 individuals, en route to fifth place out of 54 teams.

Bates received an at-large invitation Sunday to compete as a team at this Saturday's NCAA Division III Championships in Louisville, Ky., claiming the seventh team bid to nationals in program history.

Previous team trips to the NCAA Championships netted the Bates men a 10th-place finish out of 24 teams in 1999, 19th place out of 24 in 2004, seventh place out of 32 in 2011, sixth place out of 32 in 2012, 24th place out of 32 in 2013, and 26th place out of 32 in 2018.
