On Friday, junior Adedire Fakorede won the hammer throw title on the first full day of the New England Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Williams College.

Fakorede (Newark, N.J.), named NESCAC Men's Track & Field Most Outstanding Performer earlier in the week, sent the hammer 180 feet and 8 inches, winning by a margin of more than 11 feet beyond runner-up Marcus Vieira of Worcester State. The two-time All-American finished fourth in the event at last year's meet.

And a day after he won the New England title in the hammer throw, Fakorede set personal records in the discus throw and shot put, finishing first in the former event and third in the latter. 

Fakorede won the New England discus title for the second straight year with a top distance of 167-08, 29 inches beyond runner-up Sam Weeks of Worcester State and 17 inches past his former career-best. Fakorede moved ahead of Rich McNeil '10 into fourth place on Bates' all-time performance list in the event.

Fakorede's top mark effort in the shot traveled 52-04.50, only a quarter-inch behind second-place Weeks. He surpassed his former career-best in the shot by 20.25 inches and leaped from 10th place to seventh on Bates' all-time performance list in the event.
