The Bates field hockey team knocked off No. 2 nationally ranked Babson on Tuesday by a score of 2-1 in overtime. The Bobcats followed that up with 1-0 wins over No. 5 Tufts and No. 6 Amherst on Saturday and Sunday respectively.

Sophomore Alexa Jurgeleit (Barrington, R.I.) does not accumulate very many individual statistics but she anchors a defense that played a key role in all three wins.

The Bobcat defense allowed just one goal over the three contests and surrendered just seven shots on goal. Tufts and Amhersts both had penalty corners with time expired, but both times Jurgeleit and the Bobcat defense stopped them, clinching the victories for Bates. In fact, the Bates defense held the Mammoths scoreless despite Amherst earning 13 penalty corners on the afternoon.

The remarkable 3-0 week moves the Bobcats' record to 7-5 on the year and 4-4 in NESCAC play. They play at Southern Maine on Thursday and host No. 3 nationally ranked Middlebury on Saturday at noon.
