Senior captain Maisie Silverman (Brunswick, Maine) went 2-1 at No. 1 doubles and 2-1 at No. 1 singles last week for the Bates women's tennis team at the Blue-Grey Invitational hosted by the University of Mary Washington.

Silverman battled Nithya Kanagasegar of No. 17 nationally ranked Case Western Reserve to a three-set victory at No. 1 singles, 7-5, 2-6, 11-9 on Friday.

She followed that up with a pair of victories Saturday to help Bates defeat No. 40 Swarthmore 5-4. Silverman teamed with junior Bella Stone to win 8-7 (2) in a tiebreaker over Emma Kassan and Anna Scheibmeir at No. 1 doubles. She defeated Shirline Wee 6-4, 6-3 at No. 1 singles to improve her record to 5-2 with her third win in a row.

On Sunday, Silverman and Stone defeated the No. 14 nationally ranked Washington and Lee Generals' top duo of Michelle Fleenor and Lauren Hassell 8-6, raising their record to 5-2 this season.

The Bobcats sit at 7-3 overall and they return to NESCAC play on Saturday, March 31 with a trip to Tufts.
