Magda Stepnik joined the Bates College department of athletics in August 2022 as the assistant men's and women's tennis coach and assistant strength and conditioning coach.
As a member of head coach Paul Gastonguay's coaching staff, Stepnik assists with the daily operations of the Bates men's and women's tennis programs, which includes organizing prospect camps, and fundraising and recruiting events; creating personal development programs for players; and managing the teams' social media platforms.
Also the assistant strength and conditioning coach, Magda works directly with head strength and conditioning coach, Mike Seltzer, with the development and implementation of programs for both tennis and squash. Additionally, she leads strength and speed labs with a variety of other sports on campus.
Stepnik joins the garnet and white after serving as an assistant tennis coach and instructor at Smith College (Northampton, Mass.) where she earned Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Assistant Coach of the Year accolades. A teacher of such courses as tennis, applied exercise science, and intro to leadership and coaching for Smith's Exercise and Sport Studies department, Magda achieved a master's degree in sport and exercise science from the institution.
A native of Kielce, Poland, Stepnik previously served as a coach with the Polish Tennis Association in Warsaw, Poland, as well as with MUKS Gemik Kielce.
Magda, a former ITA scholar-athlete, played four years of collegiate tennis at Florida Southern College (2016-20), ranking as high as #42 individually in the 2019 ITA National Division II women's rankings. She earned a Bachelor of Science in exercise science and a minor in sports business management with the Moccasins.
