Bates men's and women's swimming and diving head coach, Peter Casares, has announced the addition of former Bobcat student-athlete, Julia Bisson '23, to his staff as an assistant coach.
"We are all beyond excited to have Julia back on deck," said Casares. "She was not only one of Maine's top divers, but proved to be an experienced leader and coach during her time here. Further, she is an alumna who knows Bates and the program, inside and out - her enthusiasm will help us recruit in the next wave of Bobcat divers!'
Hailing from North Yarmouth, Maine, the two-time scholastic Maine Diver of the Year joined the Bobcats as a first-year in 2019-20. Bisson was a standout for the garnet and white in the classroom, earning a pair of NESCAC All-Academic selections while also being named a Bates Senior-Scholar award winner after participating in varsity sports for four years and maintained a cumulative grade point average of 3.50 or better. She served as a part-time diving coach for her alma mater in 2022-23.
"I am thrilled to be rejoining the Bates Swimming and Diving program as a coach," said Bisson. "I am looking forward to returning to campus and working with Coach Casares to strengthen our dive program and I am confident that we can achieve outstanding results, both in and out of the pool!"
Julia graduated from Bates in 2023 with a Bachelor of Arts in politics and English.
