    Assistant Coach
Emma Swanwick, a world-class level coach, served as an assistant coach for Bates for both the 2023-24 and 2024-25 seasons.

Prior to that, she served as a consultant sports scientist to a number of programs, including: Swimming South Africa, the Malta national team, the University of Tennessee, and various other club-based programs. Over the previous three years, Swanwick prepared swimmers for the Olympic Games, and the world long course and world short course championships, at which a total of four gold, two silver, and four bronze medals were earned.

"We are very excited to have Emma join our staff and our team here at Bates," said head coach Peter Casares. "She has had success at every level. She understands the sport at a world-class level in terms of both the science of training, and biomechanics of the sport. Her eagerness to share and add to the program is exciting. We know that her original ideas and information can bring the program, and our student-athletes, to the next level."

Also the former head coach at the University of Bath (England), Swanwick rebuilt that program, sending eight swimmers to the World Championships in 2007 and three to the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing.

Swanwick has also served as an advisor, exercise scientist, and lecturer for numerous organizations and world-class athletes across the globe in a career spanning over 35 years. A "go-to" expert on an array of related topics, she has also authored an assortment of published works.Â
