2011-12: Bettles and doubles partner RobCrampton became the third All-America doubles team in Bateshistory, after advancing to the quarterfinals of the NCAA DivisionIII Men's Tennis Doubles Championship.... Named Second TeamAll-NESCAC in doubles and Second Team All-NESCAC in singles, hisfifth and sixth all-conference honors in his Bates career.... Wonhis last six singles matches, three of them at No. 3, one at No. 1and two at No. 2. In dual-match play, the vast majority of themplayed at No. 2 singles for Bates, Bettles owned a 14-4 record,including wins against such nationally ranked opponents as No. 12Middlebury, No. 3 Williams, No. 24 Trinity, No. 13 Johns Hopkins,No. 21 Mary Washington and No. 29 MIT.... Team captain.
2010-11: Named Division III Player to Watchfrom the Northeast Region by the Intercollegiate TennisAssociation.... Bettles earned his first NCAA All-America honors onMay 27, 2011, by reaching the Round of 16 at the Division IIIMen's Tennis Singles Championship. Bettles defeated Max Woods, asenior from Washington University in St. Louis, in three sets inthe opening round of play, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3. Bettles advanced to theRound of 16 in the longest match of the Round of 32, clinchingAll-America status. He then fell 6-3, 6-1 in the Round of 16 to thetop seed, Emory University's Dylan Pottish, but still became theteam's seventh All-American men's tennis player and the fifth inthe past six years.... Bettles finished the season with a 17-13head-to-head record against opponents' top players, in addition toNCAA championship competition. He was also 15-7 this year as adoubles partner with Rob Crampton, and the duo were namedalternates to compete at NCAA's. Bettles and Crampton wereAll-NESCAC Second Team Doubles selections, while Bettles was also aFirst Team Singles All-NESCAC selection. 2009-10: Named to NESCAC Men's TennisAll-Conference Second Team in doubles with partner AmritRupasinghe. Rupasinghe and Bettles were the fourth-rated doublespair in the Northeast Region in the Intercollegiate TennisAssociation's final rankings. The duo built a 7-6 record as Bates'top doubles team over its final 13 matches, including wins oversuch highly ranked teams as Kenyon and Bowdoin. During invitationalplay in the fall, the pair went 8-2.... Advanced to the Round of 16in singles play at the ITA New England Division III Men's TennisChampionships in the fall. |
