Bates College

Sam Woods ’11 spent eight years working with the Bates tennis teams and was promoted to associate head coach in April of 2016.

Woods was a four-year member of the Bates Men's Tennis Team. During his senior season Sam served as Co-Captain and started the entire season at 2nd Doubles, splitting time with Co- Captain Jeff Beaton and future doubles All-American Timmy Berg. 

After college Sam spent the 2011-2012 season as the Assistant Coach for the Skidmore women's tennis team. While at Skidmore, Sam helped the Thoroughbreds to a 15-6 record with a Liberty League Title and a Sweet Sixteen Finish at the NCAA Tournament. Sam also helped mentor Doubles All Americans Natalie Mendoza and Lee Ford.

Starting in the summer of 2012, Sam was the assistant coach at Bates for both tennis programs. In 2014 Sam was voted the 2014 ITA Assistant Coach of Year in the Northeast Region. Under Coach Paul Gastonguay '89, Sam helped mentor seven doubles All-Americans and two singles All Americans.

A native of Cambridge, N.Y., Woods played as a prep player at Cambridge Central.
