Susan J. Doliner '81

Susan Doliner went from prime-time player on the field to her profession in development

Few student athletes have compiled college and life achievement records comparable to that of Susan Doliner. At Bates, Sue earned no fewer than 12 varsity letters between 1977 and 1981. She continued her mix of athletics and scholarship at Rollins College where was head softball coach and assistant basketball coach in 1982 while she pursued graduate studies in finance and business administration. Susan is an internationally recognized development professional. She began her career at Bates, where she led the alumni relations program, the annual giving program and several successful capital funding projects. In 1988, Susan was appointed director of development at Wheaton College in Norton, Mass. There she managed a capital campaign which responded to the needs of a newly coeducational institution and an aging campus. Susan returned to Maine in 1990 where she serves as Associate Vice President for Development at Maine Medical Center—the chief development officer and member of the Medical Center’s senior management. During 16 years at Maine Medical Center, Susan has shaped one of Maine’s most comprehensive development programs. Highlights of her work for include capital campaigns, including the effort to construct The Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital at Maine Medical Center. Her current projects include a women and infants building including a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, a neuroscience institute, and support for a strategic plan for medical education, research and the premier cancer service in Maine. Susan is a past member of the Board of Trustees of Bates College and the board of the Association for Healthcare. She earned the distinction of Fellow in the Association for Health Care Philanthropy in 2002, reflecting the highest professional standards and credentials in her field. Susan is one of 110 fellows in the United States and Canada and the only one in Maine. In the fall of 2007, Sue will serve as faculty for the launch of the Association’s Philanthropy Institute in Europe. When not seeking support for Maine Medical Center, Susan still enjoys golfing, sailing and time with friends and family in Maine and Cape Cod.
